The EAIFL Fringe Festival will be a lively and colourful complement to the Authors Programme. Even as we try to fit in all of the enthusiastic volunteers who have come forward to showcase the grassroots talent of the Dubai population, we can already see an extraordinary diversity in what will be offered. Displays by local artists, poetry readings by amateurs and professionals, music from choirs to rock bands, culture from Japanese tea ceremonies to Indian Kathak dance, creative writing classes and high-profile book signings, Khaleeji music and Yola dancing – this is just the surface of the flood of local talent that will bring the true festival atmosphere to EAIFL and Festival City.

All events are free and open to the public, so whether you’re hustling past doing your shopping, waiting for your favourite author to speak or just kicking back and letting it all wash over you, you’ll gain something from the EAIFL Fringe.

The British Council in the UAE is offering a series of workshops at the Emirates Airlines International Festival of Literature on Literature in Education & Writing and Performing for Young People.

Poets, Storytellers, Teachers of Literature and Teachers of English are invited to participate in various workshops on Friday 27 and Saturday 28 February 2009 at the Dubai Festival City with leading UK practitioners
