Rajaa Al Sanea is the author of Banat Al Riyadh (Girls of Riyadh), a phenomenally successful first novel about young Saudi women that has been a bestseller in both Arabic and English. Drawing comparisons in the West with Sex and the City, Girls of Riyadh was the first book to uncover the private lives of Saudi women, causing some controversy in Saudi Arabia.

Born into a family of doctors, Al Sanea obtained her dentistry qualification from King Saud University and is currently studying for a PhD at the University of Illinois in Chicago.
